Pokemon Home lets you store and trade your favourite Pokémon - here's how it works

Pokémon Home is the latest project to have a loads of new information about it revealed by Nintendo.

It might seem as if every other day yields information on a brand new Pokémon game, and while there is a lot to digest when it comes to the world of collectable, virtual creatures, new games aren't as regular as they might see.

It's not a new game, but instead a cloud-based subscription service that will allow you to store and trade your favourite Pokémon across a number of games.

Here's everything you need to know about it:

What is Pokémon Home?

Pokémon Home is the Pokémon series' long-awaited official storage and transfer service, which will allow players to store and trade their favourite Pokémon across a number of games.

Pokémon Home will be available on the Nintendo Switch console, and as an app for mobile devices.

The app will take the form of a cloud-based National Pokédex, which will grow as Pokémon from compatible games in the series are added.

When Pokémon Home launches, the game's supported by Home will be the recently released Pokémon Sword and Shield and both Let's Go games. Support for Pokémon GO is "coming soon".

Using your Nintendo Account on both the Switch and mobile, you'll be able to move Pokémon between compatible games, but you'll also be trade Pokémon on the go with other users.

Pokémon Home lets you trade with people around the world, even when you’re not using the app, letting you specify which Pokémon you want to trade and which Pokémon you want to receive, before matching you with another player who meets that criteria.

How much does it cost?

Pokémon Home's premium offers cost £2.69 for a 30-day plan, £4.49 for 90 days and £14.39 for a full year (365 days).

If you don't want to stump up the cash to check in on your Pokémon in the cloud, a free plan will be available, but you won't have access to some of the niftier features of Pokémon Home.

'Basic' users will be able to deposit and store a maximum of 30 Pokémon - Premium users can store up t0 6,000. Basic users can place three Pokémon in the 'Wonder Box' at once; Premium fans can place 10.

Premium users can also check how strong their stored Pokémon are using the Judge function, and can both set up and participate in Room Trades, which Basic users can only participate in.

Perhaps the biggest selling point for the Premium plan is that only paid-up users will be able to transfer their Pokémon over from Pokémon Bank, the similar service for Nintendo's handheld 3DS console.

When will it be available?

Despite the deluge of new information, Nintendo still hasn't confirmed a launch date for Pokémon Home.

Pokémon Home is available for both Nintendo Switch and mobile devices now.
