Aaron in gear for Grand Prix

On Saturday 1st March, Spires Cycling Club (Magherafelt) held their second annual Grand Prix road race with new race head quarters based in the Ballyronan Marina Centre.

In the A4 event, the winner was Aaron Millican of Bann Wheelers Cycling Club.

This was a very close fought race ending in a bunch sprint; congratulations to Aaron on some excellent riding and on taking his first big win. He has been riding very strong for some time and it was only a matter of time before he took his first win.

James Mullan of Roe Valley C.C. was second ahead of Chris Brown (Ards C.C.) and Steven Geary of Phoenix C.C. Phoenix rider, Joby Wright, crossed the line first only to be subsequently disqualified.

Dean Burnside (Island Wheelers), Mark Thomson (Curran Racing), Mike Curran (Curran Racing) and Gerard Maguire (Phoenix C.C.) took the remaining points in the bunch sprint.

Spires C.C. promoted a well organised event with great facilities and refreshments after the event.

Well done Aaron, I am sure there are many more visits to the podium to come.
