Athlete Rachel Brown has been selected to represent Northern Ireland at the London Mini Marathon on 13th April. It is the latest boost for the Martinstown youngster, who received the Des Allen Bursary at the Ballymena Sports Awards in January.

Rachel then started February at full pace when she raced three times in a hectic six-day period.

The District C Cross Country Championships at Coleraine kicked off the busy week where Rachel had a comfortable win and led her Ballymena Academy Year 9 girls’ team to first place.

Three days later, Rachel ran the 800m at the Northern Ireland & Ulster indoor Championships in Magherafelt. Rachel ran in the first of 3 time trials and won her race comfortably.

Time trials are always difficult and on this occasion the winners of all three races took the medal positions separated only by fractions of time.

Rachel won an Ulster bronze medal and importantly qualified for the All Ireland Indoor finals in Athlone next month.

The Ulster Schools cross country finals were once again held at Mallusk playing fields in Belfast.

On a bright morning and in testing conditions, Rachel ran well in a tough race, finishing in 4th place and qualifying for the All Ireland Schools cross country finals in Cork on March 8.
