Biking heritage night

BALLYMONEY’S biking heritage was celebrated with a gathering of some of the biggest names in racing from yesteryear at the Town Hall.

The event was staged to coincide with the ‘Race of Legends’ meeting in Armoy.

And one of those present at the event in Ballymoney was ‘Armoy Armada’ member Jim Dunlop.

They came from the motorbike hotbeds of north Antrim like Ballymoney and Armoy.

Those present were joined by Ballymoney Mayor, Cllr John Finlay, and there was also representation from the ‘spiritual home’ of motorbiking - the Isle of Man.

Armoy Clerk of the Course Bill Kennedy popped along and there was much discussion among those present about the feats of the past including the legendary battles between the Armoy Armada and the ‘Dromara Destroyers’.

Young and old gathered and many left with prized autographs from the stars of the past.

And fired up by the stories of past battles those present at the Town Hall event then turned their attentions to catching the current stars of the sport in action at the Armoy Road Races which, as the Times mentioned last week, were hailed a big success.
