International amateur boxing event coming to city next week

Scotland will provide the opposition to a Derry team that will be loaded with current and former All-Ireland champions.

Indeed, the Derry County Board secretary, Kevin Duffy, claimed that such is the strenth of amateur boxing in the county, it was important to attract quality opposition.

“We have a strong selection of boxers and rather than matching them with local opposition, we had to opt for an International team to match that strength,” he said.

“I think the event will prove to be a fabulous occasion in the refurbished Guildhall, a magnificent building which has seen so many great boxing events down through the years,” he added.
