McCloskey leaves Breen

TRAINER John Breen will now look to the future after the shock departure of Paul McCloskey from his Breen’s Gym stable.

Dungiven southpaw McCloskey - the former British and European champion - informed the Belfast based trainer earlier this week that he would not be working with Breen in the future.

The move is a bit of a surprise as McCloskey won in his last outing against Manuel Perez for the vacant WBA Inter-Continental light welterweight title at the Odyssey.

And Breen was disappointed with the way the whole thing was handled.

“I trained Paul for eight years and he informs me by text that I am no longer his trainer.

“The least he could have done was have spoken to me in person. I don’t think that is to much to ask?

“I always did my best for McCloskey and he won a British and European title under my guidance.

“And I still believe he would have beaten Amir Khan if that fights had not been stopped because of the cut.

“But he has decided to move on and I wish him well but a phone call would have been appreciated,” added Breen.
