Carrickmore 0-10 Augher 0-8
With 56 minutes of this senior football championship quarter-final played, the sides were level at 0-7 a piece.
A clearly injured Aidan Cassidy, who had dominated the midfield exchanges in the opening 45 minutes, was now operating at the edge of the square.
Cassidy got his hand to a high ball around the 21 metre line knocking it into the path of the on rushing Martin McElhatton who was uncermoniously hauled to the ground by Carrickmore midfielder Conor Gormley.
Gormley had earlier escaped with just a yellow card for a hand trip and looked sure to be sent off for a second bookable offence.
Referee Cathal O’Hagan took no action however and while Augher would score the free, Gormley would prove pivotal in the remaining minutes for Carrickmore as they dug deep for the win.
