Coleraine BC host another fantastic Pairs tournament

Coleraine Bowling Club hosted their annual charity pairs tournament on Saturday 21st September, the weather turned out to be fantastic for what was a superb day of bowls.

Representatives from a wide array of local clubs as well as a number of Scottish guests including ex-Scotland international Gus Blair were in attendance.

Bernie O’Neill (Portstewart) and Jonathan Calvin (Coleraine) defeated Daniel Carlin (Unattached) and Gary McCloy (Portrush) in the first semi-final, whilst Brian McKeown (Tranent, Scotland) and Victor Dallas (Coleraine) defeated Jonny Vauls (Coleraine) and Alan Irwin (Coleraine) in the second semi-final.

The final was an epic battle with O’Neill and Calvin winning it 4-3 on the last bowl of the game as they lifted the trophy. However, charity was the winner on the day as Friends of the Cancer Centre, Belfast received £1500, Action MS received £100 and Children’s Hospice £105.

Tournament Organisers Jim and Lynne Duncan would like to thank all the Coleraine members who helped make it such a wonderful day and to the partners who helped with the catering, as well as those who brought gifts for the raffle and to the local businesses that provided prizes.

Coleraine Bowling Club will be hosting their Annual Prizegiving and End of Season Dinner on Friday 25th October. Any members that have not yet put their name down for the event are asked to contact Sam McArthur or Victor Dallas before Friday 18th October, the menu is available at the clubhouse or from Sam and Victor. The dinner will commence at 7.30pm with Alan McKane providing live music from 9.30pm onwards.

The event has been well supported in the past few years and with the Irish Senior Cup on display, it is sure to be another good night’s craic as the club celebrate a successful end to the season as all-Ireland champions!
