Coleraine High team lose out in Schools Cup final

BACK in May, Coleraine High School won the Antrim Heat of the Under-15 Carnegie Schools Cup and this success qualified the team for the National Finals held at the Billy Neill Soccer Centre of Excellence in Belfast.

The High successfully negotiated the group stages of the competition and in the semi-finals were drawn against Thornhill College, one of the strongest football schools in Northern Ireland. The two teams couldn’t be separated and penalties loomed.

Coleraine High confidently scored all three kicks with Sophie Spence’s outstretched leg saving the first Thornhill penalty to send the girls into the final.

Holy Cross from Strabane had strength all over the pitch. Coleraine gave everything but eventually lost 3-0 to a very skilful side.

Still Coleraine High’s under-15s are officially the second best team in Northern Ireland, an achievement of which they can be extremely proud.
