A heavy defeat for Lurgan

Lurgan had fought their way back into the game after a Lisburn first wicket partnership of 120 between Rankin and Berry.

A large total had looked on the cards at this stage but the Lurgan bowlers stuck to their task and restricted the home side to a catchable 228 for seven from their 50 overs.

Paul Stafford was the pick of the Town bowlers taking two wickets with his 10 overs yielding only 25 runs, while Jamie Holmes’s three wickets came at a cost of 58 runs from nine overs.
Lurgan’s reply never got going with Johnston, Holmes and Godbole all back in the pavilion with only 27 runs on the board.

No revival was forthcoming from the middle order, the top score was just 17 from Neil Anderson as the visitors were dismissed for a paltry 81 runs in 30.2 overs.

Simpson and Williams were the bowlers who inflicted the pain on the Lurgan batsmen, Williams took four for 17 runs in 5.2 overs while Simpson had four for 27 off 10.
The Town side have three games left and would need to win at least two of them to have any hope of Premier League survival.

They have no match this weekend but are at home to Instonians on Saturday, August 17.

They are at home again the following week against CSNI and their final game is away on Saturday, August 31, to their old rivals Waringstown at The Lawn.
