FOOTBALL: Colts through in Youth Cup

COLERAINE Colts are through to the last eight of the Youth Cup following their 5-1 win over Rosario YC on Saturday.

Goals from McIvor (2), Doherty, McNeill and Steele sealed the comprehensive win for the Bannsiders and set up a quarter final tie at home to Ballinamallard this Saturday.

Coleraine were never in any real danger and raced in to a 2-0 first half lead. The second half continued in the same vein as the visitors lost their discipline having two men sent off with the score at 4-0.

Rosario did manage a consolation strike before the Bannsiders grabbed a fifth to leave coach Mark Crawford a happy man at the end.

"The lads were fantastic on the day," Mark told Times Sport.

"They dominated throughout and were never really under any pressure through the game. We were expecting a tougher challenge as Rosario has beaten Loughgall in the previous round.

"But the lads were really professional in their approach and took their chances when they came.

"The lads that came in from the Reserves today really played well and you can see how much they are progressing playing at a high standar every week.

"Daibhidb McIvor was superb and deservedly picked up the Man of the Match award.

"Now we have to make sure that we go out and do the job again this Saturday against Ballinamallard. We'd love to get to another Youth Cup final but we know we have to work hard and be professional to make that happen."

There was disappointment for the Reserves in the Intermediate Cup as they went down 2-1 to Strabane and Sion Swifts after extra time.

"I can't praise the lads enough," said Paul Gaston. "They were excellent, especially the young players who came in. Dean Murray especially who scored an excellent goal."

The Reserves are at home to Newry City tonight (Tuesday) before travelling to Portadown on Saturday.
