Back to back wins for Killymoon

Armagh City 0

Killymoon Rangers 1

KILLYMOON made it back to back league victories as they saw off the challenge of Armagh City in a tight contest at Holm Park on Saturday. The pitch in Armagh survived a massive down pour before kick off and the conditions were far from ideal for attractive football.

In the opening minutes of the tie, Cameron Stewart got on the end of a Steven McElhatton free kick and flicked the ball narrowly wide.

The home side were playing with the wind behind them and looked to get in behind the Killymoon defence. However, the Moon rearguard kept a strong line and the Armagh forwards were caught offside on a number of occasions.

Armagh then changed their tactics again as they set about bombarding the Killymoon goal with long range efforts.

Killymoon were unlucky not to take the lead when Shannon fired wide when ideally placed.

The pitch continued to cause problems in the second half, with free kicks to both sides being constantly awarded and no real rhythm to the match.

On 57 minutes, the away side broke the deadlock. Kevin Kelly played a short corner to John Scott who had his shot turned in at the back post by Johnny Young.

The home side responded strongly and Gareth McElhatton pulled off an impressive stop from A Nesbitt.

Young should have added to the scoreline when he headed over from a long throw and shot narrowly wide from distance.

Armagh put Killymoon on the back foot for the remainder of the tie as Nesbitt saw his shot ricochet off the upright and wide. Killymoon held on and arguably should have scored a second to seal the tie. Chesney and McGaw got in each others way and squandered a superb opportunity.

The tie finished 1-0 to Killymoon.
