Barn U18s take all three points

Barn United U18 met Bloomfield U18 at the Orangefield Playing Fields in East Belfast at the weekend.

Barn started the better of the two teams and after 10 minutes, a neat passage of play saw Jamie Montgomery find Nathan Long in the Bloomfield box and he slotted home the opening goal of the game.

The early pressure continued from Barn, but a momentary lapse in concentration at the back saw Mark Bingham come out to claim a long ball up field and unfortunately gave away a penalty, resulted in the equalising goal from Bloomfield.

But Barn stuck at it, kept applying the pressure and got their reward soon after when Gareth Moan smashed an unstoppable effort into the top corner of the Bloomfield net.

In the second half Barn almost scored through Jamie Montgomery from kick off. Bloomfield won plenty of corner kicks and free kicks as they pushed for an equaliser, but they were unable to convert any of these chances and were punished on 70 minutes when Willy Glass was fouled in the Bloomfield penalty area. Jared McFadden stepped up and slotted home the penalty for a 3-1 lead, which was the final score.

Meanwhile, Barn Under-14s played Apex at the Valley on Saturday and came away with another win.

Daniel Stephenson opened the scoring with an excellent shot from just outside the box, quickly followed by another from Matthew McFadden.

With 10 minutes to go to half time, Apex got a lucky break and against the run of play got one back. Barn upped their game and restored their two-goal lead through Stephenson. The second half was one way traffic with Barn scoring early again through Tyler Barclay, who got his second of the day soon after with an excellent strike from the edge of the box to make it 5-1.

Barn were in full flow and got their sixth through Stephenson (his hat-trick) with a superb shot from the corner of the 18-yard box into the back of the net. Apex to their credit didn’t give up and got one back to make it 6-2 later in the game. But Barn scored again soon after through Daniel to make the final score 7-2.

Barn Under-15s won 3-2 away at Waveney, courtesy of goals from Stuart McKee, Stephen McConnell and Jack Leahey.
