Magherafelt Sky Blues u12s 5 - 1 Maiden City
THE Sky Blues U12’s first home fixture in the National League saw them take on Maiden City.
The Blues started very brightly and soon carved out a number of chances through good work in midfield from Aidan McCluskey, Caolan Tohill and Conleth Mc Guckian. Maiden City were tidy in possession and also dangerous on the break and their forwards had to be well marked by Pat Shivers, Johnny Mc Erlain and Patrick Bateson.
Ewan Smyth was alert in goal for the Blues collecting a number of through balls and kicking well. Sky Blues pressure paid off and on 22 minutes Conleth Mc Guckian opened the scoring with a neat finish following another good run by Aiden Mc Cluskey.
The second half started in the same pattern with Sky Blues taking the game to the opposition through their midfield and good work from Shea Mc Sorley and Rhys Totten on the wings. Sky Blues got their second on 32 minutes through an excellent chip to the front post by Thomas Shea Maynes and a headed finish by Caolan Tohill. On 36 minutes Thomas Shea Maynes saw his penalty well saved but just two minutes later he made amends by combining with Aiden Mc Cluskey to put Eoghan Hawe through to score the Blues’ third. 5 minutes later Thomas Shea Maynes made the score 4 – 0.
Sky Blues substitutions : Liam Young and Kevin Mc Nicholl. Eoghan Hawe’s second on 52 minutes rounded off a superb performance full of power and pace for Sky Blues. 2 minutes from time Maiden City broke to make the score 5 – 1 but this was an excellent home start for the Blues and a welcome 3 points in a very difficult league
