Chairman appeals for sponsors

ADRIAN Teer has appealed to supporters to give Glenavon their much-needed financial backing.

The club chairman revealed the Board of Directors sponsored last Saturday’s match due to being unable to find another sponsor. In these trying times Teer has asked supporters to provide ‘essential’ monetary backing through either sponsorships or the ‘Mourneview Needs You’ scheme in order to ensure the club’s future.

He said: “It epitomises the difficulty of getting sponsorship.

“I was at a meeting at the IFA last week and the chairman of their board was saying how hard the association was finding getting sponsorship for all levels of the game.

“We have lost sponsors this season and after the next four matches, we need match sponsors, ball sponsors and man of the match sponsors.

“We know these are trying times and that things are very difficult for people but we rely so much on our match sponsorships. They bring us somewhere between £15,000 and £20,000 per year. That is a vital income for us and we’ve got to sustain that.

“It is essential so we would be appealing to supporters to come in and help us through match sponsorships or through the ‘Mourneview Needs You’ campaign.

“Irish League football needs this type of financial injection or else we’re not going to survive.”

Teer also praised the club’s stewards, who have backed the club through arranging and paying for the repainting of the Mourneview Park car parking spaces. The chairman said it was a ‘tremendous contribution from a small group’ before also presenting the stewards’ with the framed ‘MAIL’ obituary of the late Colin Thompson.
