Magherafelt Sky Blues U13s returned to winning ways with an emphatic victory over Institute.
The Blues started on the back foot but the clinical Cathal Chambers put them 1-0 up with a close range finish. Chambers grabbed his second shortly after before the Man of the Match grabbed his hat trick in the second half.
Darragh Wade got in on the act adding another to his impressive tally for the season and the skilful Cormac Mullan scored twice in the second half to round off the scoring. Jamie Logan, the Blues’ keeper, almost got in on the scoring act with a thunderous left foot strike which rattled off the bar before Institute scored a late consolation goal.
Magherafelt Sky Blues U14s finally got back to league action and they and notched up another convincing win against close neighbours Draperstown.
Apart from a shaky first ten minute period when Draperstown missed a penalty, the home team dominated possession and were comfortable winners. The goals came from Seoirse Lagan (2), Rory Clarke, Ryan McMenemy (penalty), Zach Ferson and Jamie Gribben.
Man-of-the-match went to Joe McVey who was rock solid at right back winning every tackle he made and starting off many of the Sky Blues moves from his great interceptions.
The U9 Colts had to battle hard in stormy conditions against a valiant Portrush team.
The lead in this game swayed back and forth. Ashton grabbed a hatrick to make it 3-3 but the Colts were tiring and were caught on the break to make it 5-3 to Portrush.
Ashton scored another to get his fourth, Caedan got two, Ethan and Turlough a goal apiece to round off the scoring to make it 8-5 Sky Blues Colts.
Magherafelt Sky Blues U8 secured a fine 10-4 victory at the UUC Mini soccer in Coleraine on Saturday morning. Birthday boy D. Donnelly scored a hat trick as did Shea Stevenson while Mark McQuitty and Michael Lavery got two each.
MSB U10 played Bertie Peacocks Youth in an entertaining game.
Bertie’s started quickly and were soon two up but the Sky Blues drew level by half time. Their hard work and skill continued into the second half and they won the game 7-4.
