Coagh kids see off Lower Maze

Lower Maze 2

Coagh Youth 4

IT was an early start for the young Coagh lads, as they headed to Lower Maze just outside Lisburn.

Last weeks performance really inspired the youth as they made no mistake in bringing the three points home with them.

The wide pitch really suited Coagh as they dominated possession for long periods of the first half.

The young lads passed the ball beautifully and their hunger was plain to see. Coagh went one up when Wensley controlled a cross from Stephen Taylor and volleyed on the turn to leave the Lower Maze Keeper no chance for a very well worked opener.

Coagh continued to press for their second with some great phases of play and it soon came from a set piece. A great corner from Reid saw Jamie Holmes head the ball home.

Five minutes from the break saw a lovely piece of football result in a great goal from James Carson leaving Coagh 3-0 up at the break.

After winning the first half, the Coagh lads knuckled down and did very well to keep the home side from keeping possession, as the maze men came out on fire.

However, it was not long until a break from the home team saw the referee make a disputed decision by punishing Sloan using his upper body strength.

A penalty was given and it was tucked away comfortably by Lower Maze to make it 3-1.

Coagh dominated the remainder of the game with James Carson slotting home Coagh’s fourth but late on the home side pulled one back after Coagh failed to deal with some basic defending.

The Coagh management were happy with the performance as they thought that every player, including the substitutes, played there part.

McKenzie added: “The young lads were tremendous; they worked so hard as a unit. Mathew Wensley stood out. He did the basics in midfield, making important tackles and staying organised. Reid and Wensley worked off each other very well from start to finish. Another man of the match performance from him.”

Coagh host Dromore this Saturday with a 10.30 kick off at Coagh Sports Centre. Please try and give the young lads your support.
