Courts shine at Windsor Park

IRISH Junior Cup finalists Lincoln Courts stepped up their pre-season campaign with two matches last weekend.

The Waterside men played a charity match in aid of young Lewis Bronze, against a Tesco select in aid at the Riverside Stadium, on Friday night; the match was played in good spirits and everyone had a great night.

However manager Stephen Nicholl used 22 players for the match at Drumahoe, as Courts visited the national stadium on Saturday, to take on Linfield Swifts.

This was a great experience for everyone involved with the club and like Friday night's match was played in good spirits and not one card was shown throughout the 90 minutes.

Nicholl's side took the lead midway through the first half after Dean Cooke dispatched a 25 yard free kick into the top corner. The home side levelled things up shortly after when a nice passage of passing football lead to their frontman firing low pass Ian Killens, and it remained 1-1 at half-time.

The second half saw Courts play some nice passing football on probably the best surface they have ever seen and they restored the lead when Mark Hamilton latched on to a goalkeeper's mistake to slot the ball home.

They added a third thanks a fine individual goal by Stevie Mooney who ran down the right wing past a couple of players, cut inside onto his left foot and let fly from 20 yards.

Linfield kept pressing to get back into the game and they would have done only for a super goalkeeping display by Killen; in fact the great Pat Jennings would have been proud of it.

Lincoln Courts would like to thank Stan McCobb of the Linfield Supporters Club for his hard work over the passed few months organising this game and they would also like to thank Linfield FC for their hospitality on the day.
