Defeated Tobermore slip from top spot

Tobermore United 2

NEWFORGE is never the easiest place to get anything from at the best of times but Tobermore’s task was made even harder last Saturday when big defender Gary Donaldson got his marching orders with only 64 seconds on the clock.

To everyone’s amazement the referee adjudged “Rio” to have pulled back McCartan preventing a goal scoring opportunity and showed him a strait red.

Tobermore boss Johnny Law reshuffled the pack and it was his side, despite being down to 10 men, that showed the most flair and only for the police keeper Wilson being on top of his game Tobermore could have went in at half time 2 or 3 up with Davy Patton, Dean Stuart and Aaron Campbell all testing him.

Tobermore’s good form didn’t continue in the second half and they let the police off the hook with McCartan breaking the deadlock from inside the box five minutes into the second half.

Davy Patton equalized with a good goal 10 minutes later but Tobermore’s defense went to sleep again and allowed their hosts back into it with two soft goals, Adamczyk and McCartan with his second.

This seemed to awaken Tobermore to the fact that they were in danger of dropping points away from home for the first time this season and they peppered the home goals, but a succession of blocks, goal line clearances and two fine saves by Wilson from Lamont frustrated the visitors.

A Sean Henneghan penalty five minutes from time gave Tobermore a lifeline but it was too little too late as they couldn’t conjure up a third goal that would have given them a deserved share of the points.

Tobermore United; Foster, Close J Campbell, Henneghan, Donaldson, Neill, Stewart, A Campbell, Lamont, Patton, and Magill.

The defeat cost Tobermore top spot in the league but their next two fixtures are at home and they will be hoping to get their form back and keep up their challenge for the title.
