Coagh Reserves 3

Loughgall Reserves 2

Coagh played host to league leaders Loughgall on Saturday afternoon in what turned out to be an entertaining game.

Something had to give as Coagh where unbeaten at home in the league and the visitors having won 9 out of 9.

In the opening period it was the visitors that forced the home side back, but the Coagh defence coped well and in the 18th minute the home side opened the scoring.

Steven Ramsey’s well taken corner was met by Alex Lees who headed powerfully past the Loughgall keeper.

This spurred Loughall on and they where back on level terms after 26 minutes. A free kick swung in from the left evaded everyone but the Loughgall forward who connected to draw his side’s level.

The second half started as the first had finished, Coagh looking confident early on, and again took the lead on 53 minutes.

A free kick was awarded 25 yards out, Lee Smyth’s goal bound shot was parried by the Loughgall keeper and Creighton reacted quickest to fire home.

As in the first half the scores where level again on 61 minutes, a deflected free kick fell to the Loughgall forward who converted to score his and Loughgall’s second.

Coagh where in determined mood and after some pressure where given the chance to retake the lead on 71 minutes.

The referee awarded a penalty after a hand ball in the box which resulted in the defender being red carded. Lee Smyth stepped up and scored low to the keeper’s right.

Coagh made two changes replacing the hard working Ramsey and Gates with Holmes and BJ Lees and they looked the better of the two sides.

Johnson had replaced Creighton on 81 minutes to tighten things up. Jamie Holmes found himself through only to be wrongly blown off side while Johnson had good chance when through on goal. Coagh worked hard to take all the points.

This was an excellent win and they will hope to carry it onto next week’s home game against Annagh United Reserves who lie second in the League. Kick off at Coagh Sports Centre is 2.15pm.
