Antrim Rovers 2-2 Cookstown Olympic -

Cookstown Olympic travelled to play Antrim Rovers last Saturday in the league, and the match finished all square.

Olympic tried out a new formation going into this match against the current league leaders and went one up after six minutes as Tiarnan Brennan played a great ball over the top for Matty Hughes to take on and blast the ball past the Antrim keeper.

Antrim were having trouble getting to grips with the game but they drew level thanks to a penalty after 35 minutes which was against the run of play.

A good response from Olympic saw them push Antrim back again and they got their reward with a penalty on 44 minutes as Ned Johnston turned the defender inside out and was duly clattered for his trouble.

Kevin Kelly calmly slotted the ball into the corner.

In the second half the expected backlash came from Antrim with some cynical tackles but Olympic held out until the 70th minute when Antrim equalized.

Olympic then had two good chances from Kevin Kelly and Ned Johnston while Olympic keeper Ryan Devlin pulled off two great saves on the 80th and 85th minutes.

It fell to Olympic to have the final chance with Tiarnan Brennan capping a fine performance with a shot that shaved the Antrim crossbar.

Team: R Devlin, C O’Reilly, D McGuckin, M O’Hare, O Maguire, M Meenan, T Brennan, M Hughes, T Keenan, K Kelly and N Johnston. Subs M Leek and R McGrath.

Next Saturday Olympic will FC Whiteabbey in the league with a 2pm kick off at Beechway.
