Football: Cookstown U15s prove too strong for Windmill Stars
This was a well contested opening 25 minutes before Cookstown Youth took control of the game.
Nathan Connolly opened the scoring as a training ground corner paid off. Soon after a ball from Kaelum Irvine set up Ryan McFarland for an emphatic finish.
Matthew Scott scored a fantastic goal from 30 yards to kill the game although after this it took a good tackle from Brendan Davey to maintain the advantage.
Man of the match Ryan McFarland notched his second goal and near the end Mark Glasgow just failed to connect with a far post header. A good team display keeps the boys in a healthy league position.
Team: Afonso Tereso, Erik Bannis, Adam Scott, Martin McCracken, Philip Laverty, Matthew Scott, Tyler Anderson, Nathan Connolly, Matty Glendinning, Jack Turkington, Kaelum Irvine, Curtis Hay, Mark Glasgow, Joseph Wilson, Ryan McFarland, Brendan Davey.
Cookstown Youth Colts U12 entertained Banbridge Rangers U12 at MUSA, Cookstown.
In windy conditions, Cookstown Youth Colts played into the wind in the first half but this did not inhibit their style of play, as they started strongly.
By cleverly keeping the ball low, they worked the ball through the midfield of Anderson, Hamilton, Forbes and Farley to the strike force of O’Donnell, C Devlin and Sh O’Hare.
After good early pressure, Sh O’Hare latched onto a great ball from Forbes and slotted the ball home.
This opened the match up and both sides had a number of further chances, which were either proficiently saved by either keeper or flashed narrowly wide.
The second half was equally entertaining, with Banbridge working hard to equal the deficit.
This meant that Cookstown’s defence of Donnelly, Donaghy, Se O’Hare and J Devlin had to be on their toes, as the resolutely rebuffed Banbridge.
Cookstown’s keeper, Monaghan was also kept busy but showed his class, anytime he was called into action.
However, this is a determined and obstinate Cookstown Youth Colt side, who grew in stronger as the match continued.
