Football: Disappointing result for Magherafelt Reds

Magherafelt travelled to Ballymoney to face Riada still reeling from the injury last weekend which will see them without their keeper for most part of the season.

The Reds started strongly and man of the match Ciaran McDonald was at hand to give the away team an early lead when he chased down a loose ball before winning it from the Riada keeper and scoring. Riada were quick to react and levelling after the Reds defence failed to catch them off-side, and the striker finished past Martin.

The Reds gathered themselves and got back into it the game with some great football. It was Booth who gave the Reds their lead for the second time when he received a great ball on the outside of the box and fired home. Riada again found themselves through on goal after a break down in communication at the back line and punished the Magherafelt men’s lapse to draw level again. The first half ended all square and it was the Magherafelt men who felt they had been the superior through the half.

Disaster struck in the second half when Riada found themselves ahead for the first time in the day with 25 minutes remaining. The Reds pushed and probed for the remainder of the game looking to pull back the game but will rue their wasted efforts in the Riada box.
