Desertmartin 8 Monkstown 1

Desertmartin put last week disappointing cup semi-final defeat behind them by chalking up a convincing victory over Monkstown in the 2nd round of the Crawford Cup at Dromore Park last Saturday.

With a few key players missing it gave manager gareth pitts an opportunity to give a start to some of the young lads.

Monkstown drew first blood in the 1st minute but Conor Stewart soon brought Desertmartin level, Chris Kerr pace down the left set up Robin Patton to put Desertmartin in the lead.

Gavin Colgan made it three before Patton chipped the keeper to give Desertmartin a three goal advantage at the interval.

After the interval Ryan Glasgow followed up a Jason Martin rebound for the fifth goal. Soon afterwards Davy Nelson pulled off a top class save to keep the Desert goal advantage intact.

In the 70th minute James Johnston was taken down inside the area, the keeper saved the spot kick only for Robin Patton to score the rebound, patton added another before Jason Martin scored the seventh. Just before the final whistle Paul Taylor set up Robin Patton to volley home for his fourth goal of the afternoon.

This Saturday, Desertmartin are at home to Newtowne. Kick off 2pm Dromore Park.

With both teams unbeaten in the league this season this should prove to be an interesting duel.

Ballyclare Comrades Res 6

Desertmartin Swifts 2

The Swifts travelled to last season’s league champions in the hope of getting at least a point but it was not to be as the Comrades over ran the Swifts 6-2.

The Swifts did hold their own for long periods but their were too much class in this young Ballyclare side.

John Smyth was on target in the first half to keep the Swifts in the game at the interval.

However Ballyclare scored a further three second half goals before Malcolm Watterson made the score line a bit more respectful but it’s got to be said, Ballyclare are the team to beat this season.
