Moyola Park Olympic 2 FC Whiteabbey 2
A late rally by Moyola Park Olympic saw them come from two goals down in this home Ballymena Junior League Division Two fixture to earn a share of the spoils.
The Castledawson side were level on points with FC Whiteabbey going into this game, and a 2-2 draw maintains their standings in the table.
In the 8th minute of play, Darren Scullion had the ball in the back of the visitors net only to have the score ruled out for off side. Moments later, William Dunlop had a good shot just clear the crossbar while, in the 22nd minute, Kevin Loughrey had an effort well saved.
On 37 minutes, and excellent through ball by Loughrey saw Scullion denied by the visiting keeper. However, in the very next attack, Whiteabbey went ahead when Jonathan Montgomerie fired home from close range.
Worse was to follow as in the 44th minute, Niall McGovern was allowed a free header to make the score 0-2 at the break.
On the hour mark, Connor Taggart had an effort blocked and in the follow up, Travis Rankin just fired wide of the mark.The game took a decisive turn in the 71st minute.
A great cross on the left by Rankin, found substitute Brian Holmes at the back post and he slotted home for 1-2.For protesting, a Whiteabbey player was sent off and this would greatly enhance the home teams cause.
Olympic piled on the pressure now with both Rankin and Dunlop going close.This eventually paid off in the 87th minute when Scullion was on hand to rifle to the back of the net for 2-2.
In the last minute of play, Dunlop lobbed the advancing away keeper, only to see the ball roll wide.
In the dying seconds, Holmes looked certain to have sealed a great comeback. Unfortunately, his well placed header hit the top of the crossbar and fell to safety. Had Olympic started this game the way they finished, they would surely have taken full points.
