Gareth on the podium in only his second race

LOWER Balinderry rider Gareth Keys grabbed a podium finish on only his second outing on his new Charles Hurst Vauxhall BMW S100RR superbike this year, finishing third at Kirkistown this Easter Monday.

Considering he has moved up in division, moving up from the superstock’s last year to superbikes, achieving a podium so soon is an extraordinary achievement.

At 22 he might be considered young by most people however he has been around the sport since a very early age as he is the third generation in his family to race. He started racing at the age of 13 in mini moto and even at that early stage of his career showed promise by becoming the Mini Moto winter series champion and has since gone on to notch up a considerable resume of results with the pinnacle to date being crowned Irish Superstock champion in 2010.

Gareth is supported by a close circle of friends and family especially his father Rod and his grandfather Harry who are at every race making sure all is well and as it should be in the Keys corner.

Whilst his success at Kirkistown is a welcome result, his main goal for the 2013 national championship is to run in the top six with special focus is on this year’s Northwest 200 and Ulster Grand Prix being a priority.
