Hughes apologises to fans after United defeat

Carrick boss Michael Hughes has apologised to the club’s fans after their shock defeat to Tobermore United on Saturday.

Rangers lost 4-3 at Fortwilliam Park to the team rooted to the foot of the Championship 1 table and Hughes told the Times it was the worst performance he had presided over since he took the reins almost a year ago.

“Our supporters turned up in their numbers. They paid their money to travel and forked out cash to enter the ground to give their backing to the team and the least they expected in return was to see players put in the effort over the 90 minutes. They did not get that,” said the former Northern Ireland international.

“However, I am the manager and the buck stops with me and I must, therefore, apologise to each and every one of those who came to support the team for what turned out to be, by far, the worst performance I have seen since I took charge as manager of Carrick Rangers.

“The game was riddled with mistakes by players. I was disgusted and I can tell you that, as long as I am in charge, it will never happen again that Carrick players will slump to this level.”
