Kilmartin in talks as Larne duo sign

The pair have agreed to play for free for the season as they look for the chance to forge Irish League careers whilst gaffer Gary Hamilton is “90% certain” that former Distillery midfielder Kilmartin will also join the club.

White, a former Sunderland and Linfield striker, joins the club as a centre-back having reverted to his original position after joining the Harbour Rats.

The 26 year-old has also been on the books at Derby County, Ards, Donegal Celtic and Carrick and comes with high praise from his former Larne boss Paul Millar, who is now assistant manager at Glenavon.

“Paul rates him highly,” Gary Hamilton told the ‘MAIL.’

“The fact that he was at Sunderland proves that he has pedigree. He’ll come in for pre-season and hopefully we’ve found a good player who is prepared to play for free.”

Meanwhile, 24 year-old Brown adds some versatility to Glenavon’s squad with the ability to play anywhere across the defence or midfield and Hamilton says the club can’t lose on his addition.

He said: “I know Marc well as he was with me at Glentoran before joining Larne in 2008. He’s playing for free so if things work out for him and Robbie then it’s great business for us and if not, it hasn’t cost the club anything.”

Hamilton is also keen to add Kilmartin to his squad and is in talks with the 29 year-old midfielder. The gaffer is “very positive” of luring the former Glentoran man to the club but also says that “until Andy puts pen to paper, nothing is certain.”

Hamilton is also currently discussing terms with a player that he says would be his biggest signing of the summer but will have to fight off competition if he is to secure the unnamed player’s signature.

“I’m talking to another player who I want to be my main signing,” he said.

“It’s a big decision for him though and he has offers from other clubs as well as the club he is currently at. We’ll have to wait and see and if we don’t get him, we’ll have to look elsewhere.”

The boss also said that he will be looking to sign another striker after Mark Miskimmin left the club earlier in the week.

“Another centre-forward, who fits into my budget, is a priority now,” he said.

“I’m speaking to another few of our players who are out of contract at the minute so it depends on how those talks go as to where else we’ll need strengthened.

“For example, I’ll be talking to Peter McCann and offering him a new contract but if he doesn’t sign then we’ll need another right winger. A striker is my priority and if we can get a left sided player, we need one down there as well.”
