Blues Bus

1st Lisburn Blues supporters club will be running a bus from their Sackville Street clubrooms tomorrow (Saturday) for Linfield’s clash against Cliftonville.

Old Blues pic

Last week we featured an old photo of a Linfield team from the 1940s. We’ve had some new information about the photo from a reader, who says: “The photo shows the Linfield team from 1949/50, the year Linfield won the League, Irish Cup, City Cup and Gold Cup – although it’s way before my time so I’m not sure which is which and, as a Ballymena United fan, I still wouldn’t know a trophy if it tackled me sliding down the new tiles on Bow Street! The information came from the Linfield 100 Years book, written by the sadly missed Malcolm Brodie, so I’d be as certain as possible the information is correct.”

Wee Whites

Lisburn Distillery Under 10’s played St Pat’s last Saturday. It was a great game with plenty of good football. There was a fantastic goal from Jay Hawthorne which was nicely set up from a corner by Scott Taggart, showing that the boys play as a team. There was a solid performance by Ben Bona, Kieran Baxter and Reece Taggart.

The Under 9’s played Shankill. The Wee Whites went into the game on the back of their best performance of the season the week before. It was a brilliant game and again everyone in the squad played their part. Goals were scored by Dee Dee Rafferty, Chris Cowan and Michael Rocks. Again there was an excellent performance by Reece McKeown in nets.

Lisburn Youth

Ross Hull’s hat-trick inspired a Lisburn Youth Under 14 victory at Ballymacoss on Saturday. However, the young lions didn’t have it all their own way and had to work hard to get the win to keep their 100% record going against Oxford Sunnyside.

Lisburn had a lot of possession but the only chances they really created were shots from distance by Ryan Jackson that didn’t trouble the Sunnyside keeper and a good move down the left with full back Cory Mann getting to the bye line and sending a dangerous cross but nobody anticipated where the ball would go and the defence were able to clear.

Ross Hull finally broke the deadlock when he received the ball from Jackson on the right hand side of the 18 yard line, his shot took a slight deflection and it spun past the keepers hands into the net. That was as good as it got for Lisburn in the first half.

The second half saw Lisburn play with more purpose. Hull was getting more and more involved and his pass in behind the defence put Chris Singleton through on goal and he nicked the ball past the onrushing keeper to make it 2 nil.

Substitute Ub Ottong finished off the move of the match to make it 3 nil – it began with a throw in on the left but some quick two touch football between Hull, Mann, Conall Smyth, Rhys Kelly and Caoelain Young freed up Harry Wilson on the the overlap down the right, his cross was headed into the net by Ottong.

Hull then made it four when he controlled Smyth’s perfectly weighted pass and finished across the keeper into his bottom right hand corner. Hull then completed the scoring and his hat-trick when his goal bound shot was deflected into the net.

Another good win for Lisburn as they continue to sit proudly at the top of the table but will need to play a lot more like they did in the last 10 minutes of this game and less like the previous 50.
