Moyola Park entertained Portstewart at the Mill Meadow on Saturday in their final game of the season.

The home side knew that a win would secure them 46 points for the season and seventh place in the Championship 2 table.

The win saw Moyola record their highest points total since the 2002/03 in which they accumulated 49 points.

This was a game that saw the home side’s leading goal scorer Chris Dowie finish the season with 32 goals which is the is the highest since Sam Shiels scored 33 in the 2001/2002 season.

The home side had the first chance on goal when in the second minute Lucas hit a shot wide. The home side got on the score sheet three minutes later when Lucas who was playing in his third game after returning home from Australia hit a shot from the edge of the box.

In the 14th minute Walsh for the home side tried his luck from 35 yards out but saw hit shot go over. With 28 minutes on the clock Dowie scored his 32nd goal of the season when he controlled a cross from Curtis on the left and turned and finished high into the Portstewart net. With half an hour gone both Gallagher and McConnell saw efforts saved by Madison in the visitors’ goal.

On 43 minutes a great move between Dowie, Curtis and Stewart found Gallagher who saw his back heel saved by Madison.

With a minute left in the first half, a corner from Stewart on the right found Kelly at the back post who headed across goal into the far corner to make the half time score 3-0.

The visitors came out in the second half looking to get back into the game and Hanson saw an effort saved by Farniok in the 55th minute.

Five minutes later Gallagher headed wide for Moyola and in the 62nd minute Farniok was again called upon when a pulled off a great save from Hanson.

The side made a change following this with Paul replacing Curtis. A minute after coming on Paul rolled the ball over the line following a great run and shot from Dowie which was blocked and fell to the Moyola number 12.

The visitors got on the score sheet in the 66th minute when a corner on the left rebounded around the goal mouth and Hanson was on hand to knock the ball in.

With Moyola looking to extend their lead Dowie had a shot saved by Madison and at the other end Farniok made a great save from Hanson following a pass from Quinn.

In the 73rd minute the home side replaced Lucas with Loughrey and three minutes later Gallagher made the score 5-1 when he fired home from the edge of the box.

Moyola manager Mervyn Pattison made his final change of the season in the 78th minute when he replaced Stewart with Scott. With the gamecoming to a finish McConnell for the home side and Moody for the visitors fired shots over and the last action of the game came in the 88th minute when Moody scored from six yards out to make the final score 5-2.
