DC players’ performance they can all be proud of

There was a good travelling support for Draperstown Celtic who made the short trip to neighbours Tobermore United for the side’s third pre-season game.

Despite the vast difference in places between the clubs in the football pyramid, there was little or nothing between them for much of the match; in fact Glass might even have cause to be disappointed with the final score.

The game started lively, with Flanagan and J McKee having the best of Draperstown Celtic’s chances in the opening stages before, on 10 minutes, DC didn’t clear a corner properly and it came back in for Tobermore who converted to go one up.

Draperstown Celtic hit back instantly when on 11 minutes, almost immediately from the kick off, before anyone had a chance to catch their breath, D McGlade converted from about 8 yards to make it 1-1.

The game went back and forth and DC had another good chance on 30 minutes when J McKee sent a free in from the wing and D McGlade put it just wide.

The half ended on a goal apiece.

Draperstown Celtic kept going well in the second half, matching their hosts blow for blow.

In the 50th minute McGuckin had a half chance from the edge of the box.

Tobermore started to get a grip on the game and had a good 15 minute spell where Draperstown Celtic’s defence were tested but held firm.

A couple of good saves from Mullan-Young and a great last ditch tackle from Hegarty kept the sides level.

With the storm weathered, DC started to push on, and on 80 minutes had a decent chance when a free taken by Mullan-Young fell to McGlade who fired wide.

McGlade forced a save from the keeper minutes later but then, slightly against the run of play, Tobermore broke forward and scored to make it 2-1.

DC kept the heads up and Donnelly almost equalised but alas, time ran out and the game ended 2-1.

This was without doubt a performance The Draperstown Celtic lads can take heart from.

Everyone at DC would like to wish all the best to Tobermore for the season ahead.

Next week Draperstown Celtic travel to Moyola.
