Olympic effort sees win over Chimney

Cookstown Olympic 2

Chimney Corner 1

Cookstown Olympic, who are sponsored this season by the Dunleath Bar, entertained Chimney Corner Reserves last Saturday and after an exciting match won 2-1 to gain another three league points.

Chimney Corner started positively and had Olympic on the back foot early on.

However, on seven minutes Nigel Johnston got a ball from his defence and played in Ryan Devlin whose shot ran across the visitors’ goal line.

Olympic then opened the scoring after 15 minutes when a Donovan McGuckin corner was headed in by Ryan Devlin.

Three minutes later and Liam Hoy hit a rasper of a shot that the Chimney Corner saved spectacularly while on 25 minutes a short corner routine saw Nigel Johnston clip the top of the bar.

Chimney Corner then decided to push forward and on 42 minutes they hit the bar with the resultant follow up cleared off the line by Mark Meenan.

In the second half Chimney Corner pushed a lot of players forward and equalized after 47 minutes from the penalty spot.

This led to a period of dominance from Chimney Corner that Olympic did well to defend.

The game then turned Olympics’ way on 55 minutes as Matty Hughes was brought down in the penalty area resulting in the defender being sent off and Johnny O’Neill scoring from the spot to make it two goals to one.

Chimney Corner then had to change their formation and the game took on a cup tie atmosphere with both teams creating chances without much success.

Chimney Corner had another man sent off after 75 minutes and Olympic had a Matty Hughes one on one which the keeper saved after 82 minutes and then on 87 minutes an Olympic break saw Matty Hughes square for Nigel Johnston whose effort from 10 yards was somehow also saved.
