Olympic hit five as they stroll to impressive victory at Wakehurst

COOKSTOWN Olympic travelled to play Wakehurst Strollers last Saturday and cruised to an easy five one victory.

Indeed the margin could have been a lot bigger only for great goal keeping from the Wakehurst minder. Olympic were soon attacking the Wakehurst and after 2 minutes Ryan Devlin rattled a shot off the bar followed by a Conor O’Hare shot after 5 minutes.

Then on 10 minutes Ryan Devlin fired in a free kick to the back post for Dean Campbell which came off the post.

The first goal came on 16 minutes as Lee Mitchell put Declan Doherty away down the line and he put in a deep cross that Ryan O’Neill headed to the net.

The lead was doubled after 23 minutes when Doherty headed on to Ryan O’Neill who put Conor O’Hare through and he slotted the ball past the keeper.

The third came on 42 minutes as Lee Mitchell flew down the left wing and put in a thirty yard cross that Ryan O’Neill headed home.

The second half brought more of the same with the Wakehurst keeper pulling off a great save from a Ruairi Scullion 25 yard shot but number four arrived 4 minutes later when a Jamie O’Neill goal kick was headed into the path of Ryan O’Neill and he volleyed a superb 20 yard shot.

Olympic should have scored two minutes later as a Mitchell cross was headed off the bar by Declan Doherty and Conor O’Hare’s follow up was saved superbly by the keeper.

The fifth goal did come after 58 minutes as Ryan Devlin pulled one back from the bye line and Declan Doherty turned and scored.

Wakehurst then got a penalty but Olympic keeper Jamie O’Neill pulled off a great save; however Wakehurst then saw a deflected shot into the net two minutes later.

The Wakehurst keeper still had time to pull off another great save from Ryan Devlin after 75 minutes but it was a comfortable victory for Olympic and another 3 points.
