Successful week for young Whites

It was a busy week of action at the Lisburn Distillery Academy and it turned out to be a pretty successful one with four out of the five teams in action gaining valuable wins.

The only surprise was to find that it was the all conquering U-17s who lost their 100% season record when going out of the NIBFA cup in controversial circumstances to Killeen Rangers.

The Whites lost 3-2 despite having a man red-carded after three minutes and having a big penalty shout turned down in the last minute, Andy Hewitt and Danny Hawe got the Distillery goals.

The U-16s are only a point off the top of the table with two games in hand after beating Solway Stars 4-0 and the U-12s continued their improvement with a comprehensive 5-0 victory over Greenisland. A 3-1 victory over Donegal Celtic was enough to keep Gary Boreland’s U-15s in second place in the league. Local rivals Hillsborough were defeated 6-0 by the U-14s which saw the Wee Whites move into the top five. As usual there were plenty of goals in the mini soccer, the U-8s scored a few in a difficult game with a strong Shankill Juniors side and Dee Dee Rafferty and Jake Hull both got a brace for the U-9s against St. Marys. Lewis Doyle was in superb form in goal for the U-10 Whites and he needed to be when the boys came up against an excellent Immaculata team. Jonathan McCullough scored twice (one of them a super individual effort) for the U-10s in a game with Aquinas but there was no doubting the goal of the day at the Academy, in the same game Ross White brought a long ball down on his chest, lifted it over the defenders head and volleyed it into the top corner from twenty yards without the ball touching the ground, superb technique for an U-10 and a goal that would have graced any stage.
