REFEREEING decisions were at the forefront of many arguments discussed up and down the country. Like Sir Alex Ferguson, Tobermore boss, Johnny Law will not be sending too many Christmas cards to the officials. Tobermore were defeated by 2-1 by Larne at Inver Park and the away side will certainly feel aggrieved at a number of decisions, such as eight added minutes in injury time and a controversial penalty decision. However, that said it was an entertaining game and with both sides having identical league statistics prior to kick off a close encounter was expected and that’s how the game panned out.

As expected Larne pressed early on but Neil Lamont almost put Tobermore ahead with 10 minutes gone when his effort from the edge of the box shaved the back post and 3 minutes later David McClements rattled the cross bar with Gibbons well beaten.

At the other end, Sammy Foster pulled off two world class saves to deny Brown from a free kick and a Yilmaz header that was goal bound.

Who else but Lamont put the visitors ahead on 35 minutes when he pounced on a mistake by keeper Gibbons and slotted into an empty net for his 5th goal in 3 games.

Tobermore, despite some sustained pressure from the hosts, held on to the lead until the 71st minute when the referee, to everyone amazement, pointed to the penalty spot which Brown gleefully smashed home for the equalizer.

The game got a bit frantic at this stage and several yellow cards were shown to both sides but it boiled over after Larne scored the winner deep into time mysteriously added on and Yilmaz was shown a straight red card for striking Tobermore defender Millar.

Final score; Larne 2-1 Tobermore Utd.
