Two Carniny sides make it through in NIBFA Cup

It was NIBFA cup weekend last Saturday with both Carniny Youth’s Under 13 and 16 sides in action.

The Under 13s had an easy passage through with hat tricks from Joshua Logan and Conor Stewart against Bangor side, Castle whilst the Under 16s progressed through with a three nil win over Rathfriland Youth.

The Under 15s climbed up their table with an impressive performance against Warrenpoint and the Under 12s kept up their winning streak to keep them at the top of their league.

Carniny Youth 3, Coleraine Academy 3: Carniny fell behind to a penalty but replied when Harvey Scott took a quick free kick for Sam Magee to fire home the equaliser.

Leon Graham then shot into the top corner to put Carniny ahead and then when Graham’s shot came back off the post, Anthony Greer followed up to extend the lead.

But as legs started to tire, Carniny conceded two goals, the second right at the end.

Carniny Youth 2, Institute 1: Carniny settled quickly and a long range effort from Joel Murray flew past the keeper before he had time to react.

Adam Douglas was battling hard in midfield and he was rewarded when he made some space and fired off his shot which found the back of the net.

In the second half Institute pulled a goal back but stuck to the task and saw the game out for a well deserved win.

Carniny Amateurs 3, Bertie Peacock FC 5: Carniny fell behind early on but responded when Timothy McClure burst through from defence and fired in a 30 yard shot to level the scores.

Again Peacocks went in front but McClure levelled for a second time before the COleraine side took a 3-2 lead into the break.

It was 4-2 early in the second half and although Paul O’Boyle brought it back to 4-3 with a header, Bertie’s finally broke Carniny’s resistance with a fifth goal in the final minute.

This match was nip and tuck with both teams really battling hard but it was Peacocks who scored, Carniny went looking for the Carniny: McGrath, McClure, O’Boyle, Balmer, Porter, McPeake, Millar, Farrenden, Murray, Robinson.

Carniny Youth 9, Donegal Celtic Colts 3: Diego FLetcher scored a hat-trick inside the opening 12 minutes to put Carniny three up.

Dungiven pulled a goal back but Harry Foster made it 4-1 from a well struck shot.

Sean Condron got Carniny’s fifth two minutes into the second half and although Dungiven scored, Daniel Herron made it 6-2.

Fletcher scored an excellent solo goal before Harry Foster rounded off Carniny’s scoring.

Carniny Youth 2, Limavady Youth 1: First half substitute Jake White made an immediate impact when a clever ball from midfield put him one on one with the keeper and with almost his first touch he smashed it into the net to make it 1-0 Carniny at half time.

In the second half it was Lee Lynn who got Carniny’s second when he was slipped through by Aidan Graffin, he smashed it into the net from a tight angle. Limavady then had a man sent off which should have allowed more freedom but to Limavady’s credit they lifted their game and managed to get one back to make it an interesting finish.

Carniny Youth 9, Castle Juniors 0: Carniny took an early lead with a near post flick from Joshua Logan. Carniny then doubled their lead after Dane Archer scored,

Carniny had Castle pinned into their half and soon scored again with a nice finish again from Logan.

The fourth came after a nice move and Joshua Courtney slotted home from close range.

Carniny were now in top gear and scored again through Joshua Courtney who gave the keeper no chance with a fine finish.

Joshua Courtney soon had his hat-trick after a mix up between keeper and defence left a tap in to an empty net. On the stroke of half time Kieran O’Boyle scored with a high looping shot.

Carniny continued to dominate in the second half as Conor Stewart who tucked away a neat finish.

The same player added another and to complete the rout Sammy Clyde tucked away after a sloppy clearance.

Carniny Youth 2, Ridgeway Rovers 5: Ryan McGarry gave the Reds the lead with brilliant control in the box and finished strongly with a left foot volley.

Ridgeway pulled level, only for Corey Little to give the reds the lead again with a cool finish.

Carniny kept Ridgeway out until late in the game and as Carniny tired Ridgeway kept pushing forward and scored three more before full time.

Carniny Youth 4, Warrenpoint 0: After 7 minutes Philip Maybin beat his marker and squared across the six yard box for Conor Doherty to tap home.

The lead was doubled in the second half when leading scorer Calum McGall curled home a free kick.

With the security of a two goal lead Carniny played some lovely stuff demonstrated by a lovely five man move involving Evans, Campbell and O’Mullan, finished from close range by Kavan Keenan. Philip Maybin completed the scoring late on.

Carniny Youth 3, Rathfriland FC Youth 0 (aet): The best chance of the first half came when Jaworski won a penalty for Carniny but Adam Rowe`s spot kick was easily saved by the Rathfriland goalkeeper, to ensure the half finished scoreless.

The second half saw more of the same with Carniny continuing to dominate the majority of the possession, but Rathfriland came more into the game but the Carniny back four of Macartney, Balmer, Rowe and Johnston dealt with any of the Rathfriland attacks to ensure Owen Marquess in Carniny’s goal had a quiet afternoon. Carniny continued to push forward and create chances but Jaworski headed over twice when well placed and both Mairs and Balmer shot wide from good positions.

Alex Platt for Carniny tried to force his way through on a couple of occasions as Carniny became more desperate for the opening goal and Jamie Killough split the Rathfriland defence with a great ball to Moore but he also shot wide from a good position and the game finished scoreless.

In the first minute of extra time Carniny scored when the Rathfriland goalkeeper dropped a cross from Tyrone Balmer and Kristian Jaworski rolled the ball into the net from close range.

Carniny scored again soon after when Tyrone Balmer fired home from inside the penalty area and added a third after a lob from Rowe came back off the post and Jaworski headed the ball in.
