Four medals for Pegasus AC athletes at NI/Ulster Age Groups

The past few weeks have saw Pegasus AC athletes competing both locally and internationally.

Two weekends ago saw the Northern Ireland & Ulster Athletics U14-U17 Age Group Championships being held at the Antrim Forum where hundreds of junior athletes were in attendance. A group of four Pegasus junior athletes took part in various events throughout the weekend in a bid to claim personal bests and All-Ireland qualification in their respective events.

The Saturday of the event only had thrower Cavan Taylor in action. Cavan made up for last year’s disappointment at missing out on All-Ireland qualification by claiming a deserved silver medal in the U14 boys hammer (22.53m) and fourth in the U14 discus (24.46m) to qualify through for both events.

The next day saw three Pegasus athletes in competition. Victoria Bell, Pegasus AC’s most consistent athlete, succeeded in becoming Northern Ireland / Ulster champion for a third time with a throw of 23.89m in the U17 girls javelin. Erica Taylor, last year’s U16 Discus champion, unfortunately missed out on retaining her title by only 17cm in the U17 girls discus although she still picked up a solid silver medal. Ronan Hamill ran well in the U16 boys 100m and 200m, making the final of the 100m (7th in 12.73secs) and finishing 10th overall in the 200m heats (26.51secs).

Two weeks earlier, Sophie Spence was competing alongside the top senior athletes at the Northern Ireland & Ulster Senior / U18-U20 Age Group Championships. Sophie agonisingly missed out on the gold medal in the girls U18 shot putt by a tiny 2cm (9.42m) in claiming the silver medal.

Up-and-coming Pegasus AC athlete Emily McCreadie recently competed at an inter-primary school athletics event at Ballymoney High School and was the most successful girl on the day by winning multiple medals.

Not to be forgotten, Pegasus AC chairman Peter Bell recently competed for Northern Ireland at the World Masters Mountain Running Championships in Buhlertal, Germany. Peter managed to finish 77th out of 111 in the Veteran 55 category and was second Northern Ireland Veteran 55 to the finish.
