GAA: Ardboe see off Clonoe to remain unbeaten

Ardboe 1-14 Clonoe 2-9This was the game of the day in senior football as two of the early pacesetters went head to head at Coney Park and it was the Rossas who came out on top to inflict a first defeat of the season on County champions Clonoe.

The home side laid the foundations for their victory in the opening quarter as they hit 1-6 without reply with Brian McGuigan getting the goal and Tommy McGuigan, Shea McGuigan and Michael Hagan scoring points.

A PJ Lavery goal gave the O’Rahillys a way back into the game but despite a brace from Connor McAliskey they still trailed by seven at halftime.

In the third quarter McAliskey and defender Dwayne Quinn closed the gap further but efforts from Kyle Coney and Nishy O’Neill kept Ardboe at arm’s length.

With seven minutes to go Dominic Campbell scored a second Clonoe goal but the home side held on.
