GAA: Clonoe get better of Omagh

Clonoe 1-13 Omagh 2-8

This was unquestionably the big game of the weekend in senior football and, while both sides were minus the services of a number of regulars, it lived up to expectations with Clonoe inflicting a first defeat of the campaign on Omagh.

The St Endas enjoyed the perfect start to the game with Cormac O’Neill finding the net after only four minutes but by the end of the opening quarter the County champions had their noses in front with Daryl Magee notching a major.

Cathal McCarron and Declan McClure traded points as Clonoe greeted the short whistle 1-6 to 1-4 in front. McClure and defender Dwayne Quinn added to that lead in the opening moments of the second period and, while Omagh responded through Jason McAnulla, it was the O’Rahillys who had the momentum.

Quinn, Magee and Paul Coney all tagged on points and while Conor Meyler converted a last minute penalty it was only a consolation score at that stage.

Clonoe scorers – Daryl Magee 1-5, Declan McClure 0-3, Dwayne Quinn 0-2, Ryan T O’Neill 0-1, Colm Doris -1, Paul Coney 0-1
