The Committee and Members of St Malachy’s GAC regret the death of Sonya Martin and extend our sympathies to the entire family circle. May she rest in peace.
Lotto numbers drawn on September 5th were 1,17, 22 and 24. There was no jackpot winner so £25 goes to Catherine McOscar and Sean McElhone. The jackpot now stands at £2,000. Tickets are available from any Committee member.
The Minors were beaten in the Championship Final at Dungiven on Monday September 5th. Given the very wet and dark conditions both sides did well to produce an entertaining encounter. An Aidan Bradley goal 4 minutes from time seemed to have swayed a tense encounter St Malachy’s way.
However, Foreglen finished the stronger scoring 2-2 without reply for a 5 points win. This was a disappointing end to the season for a great group of boys who tried hard all year and came so close to glory. Final score Foreglen 2-14 Castledawson 2-09.
Team; Jarlath Gartland, Paul McCoy, Cormac Martin, Michael McElwee, Ryan McNally, Nathan Young, Aidan Keenan, Brian Ludlow, Odhran Mullan, Conor Taggart, Aidan Bradley, Fintan Mulholland, Ryan Heaney, Ryan McPeake, Karl Martin and Danny Devlin.
Tickets are now on sale for the Annual All Ireland Football Final Prize Draw. The winner will receive 2 seated tickets and accommodation in the 5 star Westbury Hotel. Tickets cost £5 or 3 for £10 and are available from Committee members and players. The draw will take place on Monday September 12th.
The Club is seeking willing hosts for our version of “Come dine with me” on Saturday 24th September. This will be a one off event. The food will not be judged – instead we’ll just enjoy a great night’s craic. All profits will go to St Malachy’s GAC!
The night consists of the hosts inviting family and friends to enjoy a 3 course meal in their home. Invited guests will pay £20 per head for this entertaining evening. After the meal the festivities will continue at the clubhouse - transport will be provided from hosts’ homes to the club.
Anyone interested in hosting or requiring further details please contact Kathy on 07970666340 or Katie on 07739008283.
The Under 12s camogie side attended the Dan McCrystal tournament on Saturday in Greenlough. The girls battled hard in all their matches and showed some excellent camogie skills.
The first match was against Dungiven. The girls played hard in all areas of the field, Anne Marie Craig and Aiobheann McElwee linked up well in the forward line with Aiobheann finding the net with a well placed ball for a cracking goal. Katie Duffy showed true grit and determination in the midfield area and Aoife Brown was steady and dependable as ever.
The next game against Kilrea saw another display of this team’s skills and determination. Ricenda McPeake made a fantastic save that Claire O’Kane would have struggled to stop, this spurred on the other players on the field and everyone picked up their game.
Shauna McAtamney was unlucky not to hit the net but was solid up front, helped by a very able Eimear McIntyre. Zoe Dunlop was a tower of strength in the back line and worked well with Anne McCoy who was also dependable as ever making life difficult for the Kilrea players.
The girls made it through their section and had to play a very strong Ballinscreen side. Unfortunately, Ballinscreen took a few chances that Castledawson didn’t and Ballinscreen came out the eventual winners.
However Castledawson never gave up with Hannah O’Neill showing her fantastic hard work and Anna Campbell winning some super balls and making great play for her teammates. Megan Doyle was also solid in the back line sweeping up any loose balls. Niamh Corrigan Gordon and Grainne Kearns also came on and played their part in the game getting stuck in and working hard.
The girls enjoyed the tournament and as always showed great team spirit, we can expect great things from this team in the near future.
Due to the Senior Camogie Championship being refixed the senior league games have been rescheduled. However the girls are having their own competitive competition between teams A and B. Thankfully Team A are leading but check the website for regular updates. Congratulations to the Mulholland household with Geraldine becoming Mrs. Spillane and Shauna having a beautiful baby boy. Training for the underage players continues as normal on a Wednesday 6.30pm – 7.30pm and Saturday 11.00am – 12pm.
McNicholl School of Irish Dancing: Irish dancing classes recommenced for all children at the Broagh on Monday 5th September 2011 at the new time of 6:30pm. All newcomers welcome!
