Garvey girls get back to action after weather delays

Garvey Ladies Seconds played host to Randalstown Seconds on Saturday January 31 at Comber Road in the 3rd round of the Irish Junior Cup.

On an extremely cold day the game started with both sides finding it hard to put together many passing moves after many missed matches due to adverse weather in January.

After 15 minutes Garvey began to get a grip on the game and win the midfield battle in order to impose themselves on the game.

On a rare breakaway for the visitors the Garvey keeper was forced to pull off a good save from a well struck shot.

However, shortly before half-time Garvey won their 3rd short corner and this was well converted by Tanya Surgeon at the near post in order for Garvey to go 1 up.

The second half saw Garvey continue to dominate the play and create chances but to no avail until with 15 minutes left Jenna Flynn converted a right wing cross to seal the victory 2–nil for Garvey. The girls await to find out who their opposition will be in the Quarter Final due to be played on February 14.

On Saturday February 7, the Ladies Seconds travelled to Ards in their league campaign.

Garvey began to settle and the game opened up with them beginning to put together some good attacking moves. One of these moves led to a short corner which was well saved by the Ards Keeper, however, two minutes later she could not stop a rasping shot into the corner of the net from Tanya Surgeon with her second short corner.

The second half began with Garvey continuing to push forward as much as possible. Sophie Glass picked up a poor pass out of the Ards defence and calmly slotted the ball past the advancing keeper having already slipped past the sweeper. From here on Ards threw everything at Garvey and managed to get one back after an initial good save from the Garvey Keeper. With about 10 minutes left Ards scored from a well taken shot.

All in All a fair result which still leaves Garvey with an outside chance for the league title with four games left to play.
