Garvey’s winning run in the league continues at The Glade

Mossley 0 Lisnagarvey 3

Garvey travelled to The Glade last Friday night and won their third Premier League match of the season by 3 goals to nil.

The score line hardly reflected the dominance of the visitors with Garvey keeper, John Tormey not having to make a save during the 70 minutes.

However, Garvey made little of their chances in a first half which included three penalty corners. One of these saw the Timmy Cockram rocket drag flick cannon off the post in the 24th minute.

The half time break arrived with the score still at 0-0 with Garvey having nothing to show for all their pressure and efforts on goal.

Eventually in the 50th minute the seal was broken when Peter MacDonnell made a great run through the Mossley defence but saw his shot saved by the keeper only for Timmy Cockram to be on the spot to slip home the rebound.

It took another 15 minutes for Garvey to secure the league points. Johnny Quigley had a superb telling run down the left before squaring the ball to Mark Raphael who found the roof of the net.

The second goal was totally deserved by the dominant Garvey and Greg Thompson was unlucky not to extend the lead when his reverse shot again struck the upright in the 60th minute.

Timmy Cockram put the icing on the cake with a 70th minute penalty corner to give Garvey the crucial victory by 3 goals to nil.

Next weekend sees Garvey undertake a ‘double header’. On Saturday they entertain bottom placed NICS to Comber Road where the league points should be secured with something to spare.

On Sunday they move to Shaws Bridge for the semi final of the Kirk Cup against Instonians playing on their home ground.

The path to this stage of the competition was straight forward but the clash with Inst for a place in the prestigious final on Boxing Day will be a different proposition. Games between them have been tight recently with Garvey probably shading the results so a close encounter is expected. The game starts at 3.30p.m.
