Gents and ladies sections hold annual meetings

ON Wednesday November 28 Rockmount Ladies and Gents held their respective Annual General Meetings.

Outgoing Captain Mr Peter O’Hara opened the Gents meeting and completed his report for his Captaincy year. Following the Secretary’s report the Treasurer’s report and the Competition Secretaries report; Peter then introduced the new Captain Mr Glenn Willis and presented him with his Captain’s blazer.

New captain Glenn Willis thanked Peter and congratulated him on what had been an exceptionally good year for him. The new Vice Captain was then introduced - Mr Paul Banford along with the new Junior Captain, Master Gareth Burns-Delaney.

John Cahoon was elected new Honorary Treasurer, taking over from Garry Adair and Peter Rowntree was elected unto general committee.

The other committee members staying in office were: Alan McClune Honorary Secretary, Frank Wallace Honorary Competition Secretary and on general committee Colin McNeill, Frank Ward and Harry Greer.

The Ladies Annual General meeting was conducted in a similar manner with Noeleen Houston the new Lady Captain taking over from Lorraine Toolan and Janet Douds the new Lady Vice Captain.

Margaret Harrison remains Honorary Secretary, Carol Blythe Honorary Treasurer with Daphne Beggs renewing her acquaintance with committee as she takes over Honorary Competition Secretary from Janet Douds the new Vice Captain.

The other lady committee members are Jan Lindsay, Andria Watson and Patricia McDonnell.

Saturday morning was a fresh morning with a chill in the air; but none of the frost from last week for week six of the 2012/2013 Andrew Annett Winter League competition. Tom Sloan (15) beat Ian Williamson (15) on count back as both players scored 30 points. In third place with 29 points was Michael Patmore (13).

Fourth, fifth and sixth all scored 28 points and places were decided on count back. In fourth was Jim Hume (12), fifth was Michael McCormick (8) and sixth was William Wilson (16).

The gross prize went to Jonny Patterson (02); Jonny played the 12 holes in a level par 47 shots with three birdies, six pars and three bogeys making up his score. All will receive Paul Banford & Sons Butchers, turkey vouchers.

The December Open Mixed competition on Sunday was very well supported and was extremely competitive. First, second and third places all shared the same score 24 points, a tremendous score for nine holes.

In first place were Patricia McDonnell and Colin McClelland. In second were Deidre Bones and Peter Loughins; with Lady Captain Noeleen Houston and husband Brendan third.

Past Captain Lorraine Toolan won the prize for nearest the pin at the third hole. Spot prizes were also awarded to Heather Mills and Barbara Fleet for best seasonal hats and to Peter Loughins for best seasonal jumper.

The Gents Captain Glenn Willis thanked Tom and Moya Sloan for their organisation of the competition, the prizes and the musical entertainment that succeeded the seasonal food.
