Glendinning becomes the Harriers latest Ironman

Adrian Glendinning became the latest Ironman for the Sperrin Harriers last Sunday when he took part in, and completed, the Ironman UK in Bolton.

Swimming 3.9K in 01:24:26, cycling 180.2km in 06:52:36 and running 42.2km in 03:53:01, completing in a total time of 12:26:34.

Eoin Loughran represented Sperrin Harriers in the Brackaghreilly 5 mile race in very warm and humid temperatures last Wednesday evening, finished in a great time of 34.53.

Ten Sperrin Harriers travelled to Ballymoney for the Milk Run five miler which was ran in very warm and humid conditions. John Mulhern was first Harrier to complete in an impressive time of 32.53.

Tommy Harraghy was next in on 34.56 taking third in the M60 category. Barry O’Neill completed on 35.46, with Patsy Hughes and Adrian Rea finishing in 38.06 and 38.50 respectively. Louise Kelly was the first lady Harrier back in a time of 43.07, with Fiona Devlin and Nicola Rea finishing closely together on 43.51 and 43.56 respectively. Stephen McWilliams completed on 52.26 while Alison Colgan came home on 53.33.

Harriers Michael McCrory, Fiona Devlin and Caoilfhionn Quinn who braved the obstacles and mud in Run Mucker Run in Ballymoney on Saturday.

On Saturday four Harriers took on the tough challenge of the Divis 10K, which was ran as a fundraiser for Action on Hearing Loss.

The first four kilometres of this multi terrain course consisted of a 1 in 5 climb to the summit of Divis Mountain on a path peppered with large boulders, making the ascend all the more difficult.

The remaining six kilometres were ran over a hilly course with a mixture of boardwalks, gravel paths, granite slabs and tarred surfaces, with the middle section of the race including the Ridge Path, where the runners took in the spectacular views of Belfast, Belfast Lough and the Mournes.

Toirleach Gourley was the first Harrier home in a time of 49.22. Ciara Coyle crossed the line on 59.31 closely followed by Louise Kelly in 60.01.

Ilythia King competing in her first 10K finished in a time of 65.39, which was a great achievement given the gruelling nature of the course.

Eleven Sperrin Harriers competed in their local Half marathon last Sunday. Sean O’Gara was the first Harrier home in a great time of 1.22.25.

Club Chairman Mark Reid was next in on 1.26.04, closely followed by Gareth Cardwell on 1.27.06. Adrian Glendinning having completed Ironman UK in a great time the previous Sunday, finished in 1.28.15.

Martin Donaghy was the fourth Harrier to complete in a time of 1.32.48, with Raymond Thom finishing just behind him on 1.33.31.

Joe Loughran had a great outing completing in 1.36.15 and Arthur Carson doing his first half marathon finished in a marvellous time of 1.36.59.

Russell Bell crossed the line on 1.40.29 while Anthony O’Neill completed in 1.43.40. Stalwart Maureen Mallon was the final Harrier home in 2.15.03.

Cookstown Park Run 5k- Barry O’Neill 23.01, Arthur Carson 24.01, Adrian Rea 24.35.

Portrush Park Run 5k- Jeremy Dobson 21.03 (PB), Joanne Bell 23.56.

Craigavon Park Run 5k- Fergal McElroy 20.30 (PB), David Moan 20.48.

Week ahead- Stanley Reid Memorial 5M Classic, Cookstown on Friday 1st August at 7.30pm/

Tanderagee 10K on Saturday 2nd August at 10am; Rock n Roll Half Marathon, Dublin on Monday 4th August 2014 at 9am.

This year the race has been re-named in memory of Stanley Reid, founder of the race and original Chairman of Cookstown Harriers, the club which reformed to become Sperrin Harriers. More details can be found on facebook and the website.
