Trailing 3-2 from the first leg, and with the opening four matches shared evenly, it all came down to the final pairs on the course to determine the outcome of the clash between the neighbouring rivals.

Needing to win the last two holes, Lawn and his partner, Alan Dawson, did the needful on 17 - but they certainly looked in trouble on the last hole.

Lawn, however, superbly sank a 40 feet putt from just off the front edge of the green to sweep Killymoon into the next round - in which they will now face the winners of the tie between Kilrea and Down Royal.

In the club events over the weekend at the Killymoon Club, members welcomed the return of the Friday night nine hole event.

And it was Paul Kolbohm and Larry Hill who secured the opening night victory with a 25 point total in Baltic conditions.

A 43 point tally by Denis Magee saw him take the top place on the podium, finishing just a single point ahead of Austin Quinn - with Declan McGurk coming in third with 41 points. Bryan Martin shot a level par 70 to secure the best gross prize. The divisional winners on Saturday were Kieran Rodgers, Stephen Mulholland, David Shepherd and Francis Redmond.

Garvin Trophy on Sunday Mark Molloy was won with 43 points, just pipping Stephen Hagan by virtue of a better second nine. In third was Stephen Canavan on 42 points. Bryan Martin repeated his level par round of Saturday to once again claim the gross prize.
