Castle Hume came into the match holding a slender 4/3 and 10 hole advantage, they then won the first three matches out to give them a 7/3 and 19 hole advantage which meant Foyle had to win the last four matches by 19 holes or better.

This they duly did with Ciaran O’Doherty coming through 6/5 Kieran Bradley 5/4 Kevin Dunn 5/3 Martin Loughrey 3/2 which left the tie seven matches and 19 holes each, leaving the last pair out to play the tie holes. Up stepped Kevin Dunn, and with both players on the green at hole two Kevin had a 35ft putt birdie putt which he rolled into the cup, leaving Castle Hume with a 20ft putt to extend the match, which came up just short, ensuring jubilation for Foyle.

The 2014 Pitchers Spring League came to a conclusion on Saturday, at Foyle Golf Club.

Team 6 of Joe Lynch, Paddy McCafferty, Chris Lynch and Finbar Logue played Team 8 John Jennings, Dermott Harkin, Ciaran O’Doherty and Mark Doherty in what turned out to be a very competitive and close contest which was decided with the last putt on the last green after 36 holes of golf.

Joe Lynch and Paddy McCafferty were first out against John Jennings and Dermott Harkin in a match that ebbed and flowed with John and Dermott going two holes up but by the last hole Joe and Paddy had levelled the match.

Second out Chris Lynch and Finbar Logue against Ciaran O’Doherty and Mark Doherty was another very close and competitive contest which came to the last green all square where club captain Chris had a birdie putt to ensure the match went into extra holes which slid past the cup, leaving Ciaran an eight foot par putt for victory which he duly holed to give Team 8 the coveted 2014 Pitchers Spring League Title. While Martin Kivelehan’s (4) good form started after he won the Friday Open scoring 39 points.
