Duo win Holmpatrick Cup qualifier

TODAY (Wednesday) sees the club stableford competition up for grabs, on Friday Lady Captain Faye McGrotty will hold her Charity Open in aid of Muscular Dystrophy, Saturday’s competition is the Darren Clarke Perpetual Trophy qualifier and the GUI Irish Mixed Foursomes qualifier takes centre stage on Sunday.

The Spring Trophy sponsored by AON Insurance took place at Foyle on Saturday.

John McMonagle (15) took home first prize after he scored 38 points, the category 0-11 went to Martin Campbell (11) after finishing with 37 poits, the category 12-17 went to Kevin McCallion (13) after he scored 37 points and Martin McEleney (19) with 38 points won the category 18+ section. The CSS was 35 points.

The Holmpatrick Cup qualifier which took place last Wednesday went to duo Cormac Cassidy (14) and Jamie Logue (9) after a BOT finish they scored 43 points. The pair will represent the club in the area Finals later in the year when they will compete for a place in the Holmpatrick Cup Final at the home of golf St Andrews.

The Friday Open was won by Warren McFarland (19) after scoring 45 points, second after a BOT finish was Stephen Doherty (13) who scored 41 points and Dylan Nixon (15) was third. The CSS was 38 points.

While The Drinks Inc sponsored May Day Open had a very good entry on a decent day with a stiff breeze making playing conditions difficult for the 90 competitors in this annual event.

James Meehan struck a blow for the high handicappers when the 25 handicapper returned a fine winning score of 41 points in second place after a level par round for his 40 points was Cormac McGeady (4) with Sean Sands (13) finishing third after a break of tie with 39 points.

The Gross winner was Paul McGuigan who scored 33 points, the visitor’s prize went to Otway’s George Hamilton (24) who scored 32 points, the back nine after a BOT finish went to Peter Tinney (13) after he scored 20 points and the Lady winner was Florence Rankin who scored 38 points.

Captain Mr George Fitzpatrick extends deepest sympathy to fellow club members Adrian McGonigle and Paul Nicell on the recent deaths of their mothers.
