East Antrim boys' trophy heads to Massereene

THE East Antrim Boys Trophy was held at Ballymena Golf Club last Wednesday when 40 boys from the East Antrim League Clubs competed for the trophy, which was presented by the East Antrim and Ballymena Times for annual competition in 1969.

The trophy was won by two-handicapper Andrew Connolly (Massereene) with a gross score of 67.

Runner-up was Ryan Fitzsimons, also from Massereene, while Michael Reid, of Galgorm Castle, finished third with gross scores of 70 and 71 respectively.

The nett prize was shared between Daniel Reilly (Galgorm) and Philip Martin (Ballymena) as it proved impossible to separate them when applying the accepted formula for breaking a tie.

Both returned a nett score of 60. It was decided, therefore, that each should hold the salver for six months.

The trophy was presented by former East Antrim League President and Ballymena member Jimmy McCloy.
