Chris Budd’s Ulster Cup team travelled to Ballynahinch without Brian Houston who was rushed to hospital a few days earlier.

He made a good recovery and his replacement Randal Kernaghan won his match by four and two.

Brian Rainey was in top form when he won by 10 and eight. His opponent had one of those nights which he will want to forget.

Packo Pimm played well at the top of the order and won on the 16th green while Rodney Osborne got the vital half to leave the overall score 3.5 – 3.5.

Trevor Doak and Stephen Wilkinson ended their match on the 13th green where Stephen had a birdie two. Alan Crowe made good use of a new putter to help Chris Davis win on the 14th green.

The remaining matches were closely contested. Billy Gregge and Glenn Cruickshanks went one ahead on the 15th where Billy holed form the back of the green.

Their match was all square on the final tee. After the first three players had missed the green, Glenn hit a five iron to 12 feet. His par won the hole to give his side victory.

In the final match Michael Rooney and Ciaran Lyness were level after 17 holes. Ciaran hit a magnificent six iron tee shot to ten feet on the final green. To the surprise of the large gallery, he rushed the first putt three feet past but calmly holed the return to make it a clean sweep for the home side. The return match will be played in early July.
