Keith produces above-par performance at Raceview

The winner was Keith Richmond who, playing off a handicap of 14, returned a score of seven up on par.

The first nine holes saw Keith score six pars plus three dropped shots to be four up on par whereas the second nine produced six pars, a dropped shot at the 11th, two shots on the 15th and he had a non-event on the short 13th which added another three up to his total.

Second place was taken by CLifford Worthington (12) with a return of six up on par, having been three up on each nine.

The outward nine contained three pars, birdies on the seventh and ninth, plus four dropped shots.

The inward nine was made up of six pars, plus dropped shots on the 11th, 12th and 16th.

Brian Reynolds (20) had the best of four five up returns, having been one up on par on the front nine.

His good second nine hole return of four up on par saw him claim third prize from Callum Black who, having a shot on handicap at each hole, was two up on the front nine and three up on the second.

Brian Hazlett (18) scored four plusses and and five level on the front nine, while his back nine was made up of six levels, two plusses and a lone minus on the 12th.

His last six was enough to push eight-handicapper Jake Carson into the final prize position.

He was through the front nine in four up having played the nine holes in level par gross but could only add a birdie on the 17th.

The best gross card came from Gary Black (2) who played the course in one over gross having registered 11 pars, four bogeys and birdies at the eighth, ninth and 12th.

SUNDAY OPEN

Jake Carson, having lost a shot on handicap from the previous day, won the Sunday open staleford with 43 points.

Twenty-three of those points came from the front nine, which he played in two under gross, with seven pars and birdies at the two par fives.

His back nine of seven pars and bogeys at 11 and 16 added 20 points.

Second place went to Roy Worthington (22) with 42 points, which included a superb front nine total of 25.

Roy’s namesake Chris scored 39 points from his handicap of 24 to win third prize, aided by a birdie at the final hole for four points.

LADIES

Janet Gaston was in sparkling form at Ballymena Golf Club last week when she won the Lifeboat Shield Stroke competition by three shots.

Her nett score of 65 was three shots better than any of her rivals, with Deirdre McGillian getting closest of the rest with a 68.

The standard scratch score for the event was 70.
